Hi Marcia and all,
Mine's up. I attached the file in Word as well as a complete copy and paste minus the fancy formatting if you can't open the .doc. Marcia, I loved your project. The screen shots really add a touch of formality and professionalism. I hope they are a bit larger in the file you submit. The information was a tad hard to read in the pics. Something I didn't see, and that might be my fault, were performance indicators. I saw how the evaluation would proceed but you didn't mention before then what you might look for to gage results. Dr. Powley had me include them as a stand out item, so it is fresh in my brain. Also, the timeline projection ~ did I miss that too? Maybe I didn't get a full download. Hi Marcia,
This has been one ride for me this summer. I do not want another summer like this again. My surgery went well, but I am in extreme pain. I would not recommend having tonsils and adenoids removed at my age.
In chatting with my advisor via internet, she has indicated that even if we were to receive a federal grant, they have become very restrictive in how they can be used. She indicated that we can not use it to fund a summer boot camp for students. Collegeboard is willing to conduct onsite trianing for a fee. They have indicated that it would be based on what courses and how many courses they would need to provide training.
I am not sure I will be able to get accurate costs. However, I like your suggestion and will do my best.

Hi Marcia, 20 July 2010 I am doing fine, just very tired. I have been attending conferences all summer and just returned home on Monday to prepare for surgery on Wednesday. I am trying to get caught up, so if you get a chance will you review my intervention strategies and let me know if I need to make any changes. I should be able to sit up on Thursday, providing everything goes well. I will check back for input. I have reviewed your work and it sounds great. You have put a lot of work into providing ways to modify the observation and input method.
Thanks for checking on me! Monica

I think I Iike option 1. However, having used Survey Monkey before as a participant not a surveyor I can see the potential for people not filling it out at all.
Donna
Survey Moneky is cheap but not always does everyone use it or fill out it! 7/20/10 Marcia
Laurie,7/18/10 I think that option number 2 the mid price option would be the best. The low option seems to not cover everything and the high one is very pricey. Donna
Marcia, 7/18/10 I do not think that hiring a resource techer would be feasable at this time that is why I chose to put it in my high option catagory. Donna
Smart Lady!
Laurie, 7/17/2010
SO well developed, but again is this a mute issue with state funding? I am also from Illinois and MAPP grants are almost non-existent now. I just had a class that 1/2 of the students dropped out because of funding.
Marcia
Donna, 7/17/10 8:16
WIth funding the way it is today, can you really afford a resource person for a lab?
On your response of 7/15, the formulas...I have seen in IT classes before and server time for when I was a Senior Network/Systems analyst but never had to apply them. I did find them online though. Marcia
7/15/10 I have finished my interventions tonight. I am battling a virus on my computer and it was a slow go last night. Donna
7/15/10 Donna, Have you seen this news about Apps possibly being allowed on 5 devices rather than 5 computers? This means that each computer can only share with 5 iPods and then have to re-purchase. Being that I have a designated computer that updates 40 iPods at a time this will cause a cost problem to myself and others in education as the licensing stated before seems to be changing (and not in favor of educational usage). The site I am sharing overall is the best place to go for information if anyone plans on using apps in education at all. http://www.iear.org/iear/2010/7/8/dear-apple-educators-seem-to-have-more-questions-than-answer.html ~Laurie
7/15/10 Marcia, I would love to include mathematical representation within my Intervention project. Are you just good at that or did you come across the information? Other than making my own charts and graphs I haven't found much. Thanks for sharing, ~Laurie
7/15/10 Donna, I haven't forgotten about you and the wish to connect with my Kindergarten teacher who wrote the grant and got iPods. She hasn't responded to me yet. Don't give up hope though. She is exactly the type of person who loves to collaborate and learn with others no matter where they are located. She did a classroom blog project with the little ones last year that was a big hit incorporating global awareness at this young age. I have no doubts that she would welcome the opportunity to share and hear from you. ~Laurie

Anyone taken a look at my Interventions yet?
Marcia
7/14/10 I did, Marcia. It seemed very thorough. I really liked the math as it provided support and understanding of your analysis. The low cost strategy seemed slight in comparison. I agree with the Intermediate Priced Solution even though your development of the high cost strategy seemed more complete. I'm sure you will be adding and embellishing as this develops. Congratulations on all you have accomplished so far. I appreciate the opportunity to peruse others work of the same project in building my own knowledge. I liked how you shared a bit on scalability with the Intermediate plan too. Thanks for sharing, ~Laurie

Not to be rude but how can you miss in class the shift in population? I taught at a local college and immediately saw a shift in population occurring, when I taught face-to-face. Unfortuantely, the college is in jeopardy of closing now beause state funding is drying up.
Marcia
7/7/10
Hi Marcia,
From an overt perspective, I think the staff believes they have done everything they need to encourage African Am. students to take the AP courses. However, I think administation was more to blame as they did not help the staff to recognize the shift in population which had occurred; hence, the missed representation.
Monica

Hi Richard,
Perhaps I need some clarification if you don't mind. When you explained the problem in Module 2's assignment you mentioned delivery and timeline of instruction. How will the weekly assessment deal with the teacher aspect of delivery and timeline of instruction?
Thanks,

Thanks Donna,
The idea has been brewing over the course of this last school year both in my mind and group discussions at work. Doing it through this class offers me a chance to formalize, organize, plan, and really get a handle on everything. I'm hoping with the exploratory learning from this last year, that it will fit and go smoothly for this next school year.
Thanks for the well wishes,
~Laurie
Richard,
Your ida if witing units is a grea way to get the teachers on the same page. We do tha at our school. However, You may want to include some accountabilitiy as well becasue even though we have units in place a lot of teachers resent them and do not use them.
Donna
Monica, 7/6/10 8:12
I know you are not sayig this but could the performance gap for ethnic groups in AP classes
also be racially motivated? We had a huge tax increase which was fought bitterly to build a math and science building fo AP, in which the population was predominantly African American.
Marcia
Donna, 07/03/10 8:31 Am
It sounds like you have already selected a solution? Can everyone afford IPod's? Is there other solutions that would not be as expensive?
I only got an IPOD because it was given to me.
Marcia
Marcia,
My proposal is for a clasroom set of iPods. The children will not buy the iPods that is what the proposal is for. I am sure there are other soulutions but I feel like this would be very beneficial to the students and a way to incorporate technolgy. I am not saying this is the soulution but for the purpose of the class I need to have an idea in mind on how to solve the problem.

Out of surgery and feeling fine, It took 15 minutes if you can call that surgery?
Let me see if I have this right. The performance gap is because of the influx of new students? Is there reading labs? Are the reading labs not equipped for a large number or is it the training skills of the faculty?

Don't forget to update with the second modules data so we can all communciate on each other's wiki page/pages.
Cause Analysis
The purpose of cause analysis is to discover why the present performance of employees and desired outcomes are not the same. If the cause of this performance gap can be identified, it can then become the focus to effect positive change in the workplace.
To help you move forward with your intervention plan, conduct a brief cause analysis for your organization to find the answer to these two questions:
Why do you think this problem developed in your company?
Why does this gap exist?
The Organization’s History and Background, Part 2
In this module, you will also continue to compile the background information you began in Module 1 by including the following information:
In order to understand the performance goals and objectives of the individuals in this organization, and the current performance level at this point in time, you must understand the history, mission, vision, and goals of the organization. What information about the company would be useful to help you plan an appropriate intervention? Indicators may include company reports, school “watch list” designation, test scores, or other resources.
Determine where the organization would like to be in a reasonable period of time, and which people in the organization make those decisions.
Based on the performance gap you identified, as well as its causes, you will be ready to develop appropriate potential intervention strategies to close this gap in Module 3.
Post this assignment to your wiki by Day 3 of Week 4. Respond to your learning community by Day 6 of Week 4.
The Organization’s History and Background, Part 2
In this module, you will also continue to compile the background information you began in Module 1 by including the following information:

Is using the Ipod a reasonable solution? Ipod Apps are so expensive? Are they giving out grant money for educational use?
Marcia
Marcia,
It may not be the best solution but it is sometihng that I have become intrested in. Our school had enough money last year to purchase thirteen Smart Boards. So, I figred if for some reason we get that kind of money again this year why not have a plan of action to spend the money on a reasonable tool that could benefit our classrooms. I do forsee that this would need to start in a few classrooms as a pilot program first, which is what we did for the Smart Boards in the begining.

Hi Marcia,
Thanks for your appreciation. It looks like everyone is trying to catch their stride.
As far as my performance gap is going to be about, I am hoping to streamline, support, and enhance everyone's "work time." Through learning communities focused on curriculum, instruction, and assessment, my goal is to:
1) help teachers embrace learning rather than teaching as their school mission;
2) work collaboratively to help all students learn;
3) use formative assessments and a focus on results to foster continuous improvement;
4) and assume individual responsibility to take steps to create successful environments for all
~Laurie
Donna,
I love that you are exploring iPod Touches with such little ones. There is a Kindergarten teacher I work with that won a grant to do the same. It would be great to get you both sharing experiences, ideas, etc. Let me know if you are interested and I will contact her to get collaboration started.

Hi Monica,
You have me intrigued thinking about these AP classes. What might you have in mind to make them more inviting and rigorous?
Thanks for sharing,
~Laurie
Hi Richard,
Your project and mine might have some similarities. I will be interested to see your ideas to enhance, support, and streamline communication with the parents and community. Organization of a consistent collaborative structured learning environment to meet the needs of all learners is in my plan as well.
Thanks for sharing,
~Laurie
Hi Laurie,
I am looking at what barriers may be causing this lack of participation, is the fear of preparation the cause, how are students identified for participation and if parents are included in the decision. I am gathering information from system reports and data, as well as administrators from two schools which are part of this issue. My goal will be to see if I can provide workable solutions to cause a shift that is viable.
Monica
Hi Donna,
I am curious as to the outcome of your project. Is your system willing to provide iPods for class use or will the students have to provide their own? Has this been tried?
Monica
Hi Monica,
I really like your ideas for your poject. Are you currently personaly inovlved with this project right now? I teach first grade and am also an inclusion clasroom for ESOL students. THey are overlooked sometimes as to waht their potential is. This past year I had a Chineese girl who I refered to the gifted program. I was told she was the first to ever be refered not of American decnt.
As far as the way I came up with my idea. It is actually a spinoff of last quarter. I did a project on iPods and realized the potential for them. As far as obtaining them I would ask the school to purchase them. Becasue of budget it would probably have to start with a few classroms or a grant.
Donna
Laurie,
My shool currently participates in Learning Communites. Personally it was never presented to us in a structered way and a lot of people resent it. Each month a person from the team has to bring a video of a lesson and student work samples and the team evalutes it. The person who prsented the video is not present at the meeting. It can be very beneficial if done right but we were just given a sheet of guidelines and said do it.
Donna
Marcia,
My School uses the Survey Monkey program for many of our online surveys. The only problem that our district runs into is that many people do not fill it out. Many are not honest either becasue they feel like it could be tracked back to them. Do you know much about the progam?

Looks good to me but I am not the professor. Can't you get grants for summer boot camp? I know, I know...government moeny is tight right now.
Is College board off site and expensive? You might want to list or break down the prices on some of those?
HOPE YOU FEEL BETTER!
Marica
Hi Marcia, 20 July 2010
I am doing fine, just very tired.
Monica
Really? because I thought I was #1 SLACKER in this class! Marcia
Richard and Monica,
How are you doing?
Marcia
Marcia, 7/18/10
I think I Iike option 1. However, having used Survey Monkey before as a participant not a surveyor I can see the potential for people not filling it out at all.
Donna
Survey Moneky is cheap but not always does everyone use it or fill out it! 7/20/10
Marcia
Laurie,7/18/10
I think that option number 2 the mid price option would be the best. The low option seems to not cover everything and the high one is very pricey.
Donna
Marcia, 7/18/10
I do not think that hiring a resource techer would be feasable at this time that is why I chose to put it in my high option catagory.
Donna
Marcia

On your response of 7/15, the formulas...I have seen in IT classes before and server time for when I was a Senior Network/Systems analyst but never had to apply them. I did find them online though.
Marcia

I have finished my interventions tonight. I am battling a virus on my computer and it was a slow go last night.
Donna
7/15/10
Donna,
Have you seen this news about Apps possibly being allowed on 5 devices rather than 5 computers? This means that each computer can only share with 5 iPods and then have to re-purchase. Being that I have a designated computer that updates 40 iPods at a time this will cause a cost problem to myself and others in education as the licensing stated before seems to be changing (and not in favor of educational usage). The site I am sharing overall is the best place to go for information if anyone plans on using apps in education at all.

Marcia,
I would love to include mathematical representation within my Intervention project. Are you just good at that or did you come across the information? Other than making my own charts and graphs I haven't found much.
Thanks for sharing,
~Laurie
7/15/10
Donna,
I haven't forgotten about you and the wish to connect with my Kindergarten teacher who wrote the grant and got iPods.
~Laurie
Laurie, 7/14/10
Did you try and load a Word Document for the Prject assignment? I can't see it?
Marcia
I tried Marcia but ended up copy and pasting. The downloadable file is probably in the uploaded files section if you want it that way. I have the newest MS Office version that many find difficult to open so I opted for this view by all method regardless of platform
.
~Laurie
I have Word 2010 also and am not to happy about it!

Anyone taken a look at my Interventions yet?
Marcia
7/14/10
I did, Marcia.
Thanks for sharing,
~Laurie
7/17/2010
Actually, since it was the high price strategy, I chose to incorporate more information on why it was so costly!
Marcia

Monica,
Not to be rude but how can you miss in class the shift in population?

Thanks,
~Laurie
7/6/10
Monica,
I like your idea of milestones to label your timeline. I wonder if that generates a better reaction to change. What do you think?
~Laurie
Laurie,
Your project looks great and is a great idea. You do seem to have a very short time frame to meet your goals. Good luck!!
Donna
7/6/10
Donna
Laurie, 07/03/10 8:25 AM
Well, it looks great to me now! What does everyone else have to say?
Marcia
7/6/10
Thanks Marcia. Classmate input helps get the best picture in the end.
~Laurie
Richard, 07/03/10 8:16 AM
The team noticed that during their review of the school in the core academic area of subjects, that not all teachers were in the same point of instsruction.
Is this the problem that the team noticed or the real problem is that the instructors were at vaying levels of instruction?
Marcia
7/1/10
Marcia and others,
How's it now?
~Laurie
Laurie,
7/1/10
Under Why do you think this problem developed?
I am not seeing why but I am seeing a solution already. DOe anyone agree or disagree?
Marcia
Donna, 7/1/10
Out of surgery and feeling fine, It took 15 minutes if you can call that surgery?
Let me see if I have this right. The performance gap is because of the influx of new students? Is there reading labs? Are the reading labs not equipped for a large number or is it the training skills of the faculty?
Marcia
Everyone, 6/30/10 10:20 AM
Don't forget to update with the second modules data so we can all communciate on each other's wiki page/pages.
Cause Analysis
The purpose of cause analysis is to discover why the present performance of employees and desired outcomes are not the same. If the cause of this performance gap can be identified, it can then become the focus to effect positive change in the workplace. To help you move forward with your intervention plan, conduct a brief cause analysis for your organization to find the answer to these two questions:
The Organization’s History and Background, Part 2
In this module, you will also continue to compile the background information you began in Module 1 by including the following information:In order to understand the performance goals and objectives of the individuals in this organization, and the current performance level at this point in time, you must understand the history, mission, vision, and goals of the organization.
In this module, you will also continue to compile the background information you began in Module 1 by including the following information:Hi Marcia,
I have access to the budget and data files. I am actually working with the director on this project.
Monica
Monica, 12:01 PM
Nice work...where are you getting the financial records?
Marcia
Donna, 6/28/10 11:52 Pm
Is using the Ipod a reasonable solution? Ipod Apps are so expensive? Are they giving out grant money for educational use?
Marcia
Marcia,
It may not be the best solution but it is sometihng that I have become intrested in. Our school had enough money last year to purchase thirteen Smart Boards. So, I figred if for some reason we get that kind of money again this year why not have a plan of action to spend the money on a reasonable tool that could benefit our classrooms. I do forsee that this would need to start in a few classrooms as a pilot program first, which is what we did for the Smart Boards in the begining.

Everyone, 6/25/10 6:38 PM
It looks like everyone has been real busy! We are coming along fine!
I just spent 2 hours with Office 2010 and tying to make the font the same as my first page and finally gave up. I made a new page.
Marcia
Laurie, you are right we are close in the same projects. I look forward to seeing what type of ideas we both come up with. Your page looked very good.
Richard 6/20/10 9:56 PM
Donna, 06/20/10 5:14 PM

You picked a close location?
I am not sure if are you asking me if I picked a close location? If that is th question yes that is the shool I work at.

Laurie,
I see that you are working away! I am going to leave Nathan's page for awhile and see if he gets back to me? What is your performance gap going to be about?
Marcia
Hi Marcia,
Thanks for your appreciation. It looks like everyone is trying to catch their stride.
As far as my performance gap is going to be about, I am hoping to streamline, support, and enhance everyone's "work time." Through learning communities focused on curriculum, instruction, and assessment, my goal is to:
1) help teachers embrace learning rather than teaching as their school mission;
2) work collaboratively to help all students learn;
3) use formative assessments and a focus on results to foster continuous improvement;
I can't wait to see your project develop,
~Laurie
Laurie.
I would love to know what all she did to get the iPods. You can forward her my e-mail (personal) tayreagdyl@yahoo.com
Marcia,
Interesting idea for your study. How did this happen to come across your thoughts? I don't think I would have ever even noticed this issue.
Thanks for sharing,
~Laurie
Hi Monica,
You have me intrigued thinking about these AP classes.
Donna
